Job Description

SUMMARY: Performs nursing care to Radiology patients undergoing a full array of diagnostic and therapeutic, invasive and noninvasive procedures. Works alongside technologists, Radiologists, and Cardiologists, as well as independently when required. Communicates effectively with patients, technical staff, ancillary staff, and professional staff.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

- Assumes responsibility for delivery of patient care while the patient is in the department of radiology.
- Appropriately assesses the patient's physical and psychological status upon arrival to the department.
- Documents and reports to the appropriate staff any physical or psychological changes that may have occurred with the patient.
- Effectively communicates the patient's status throughout the procedure to the technologist and / or the radiologist, or other physician.
- Effectively utilizes support tools and equipment to monitor the patient while undergoing radiological procedures.
- Effectively cares for and monitors the equipment as it may interfere with, or be obstructed by Radiological equipment.
- Effectively understands and can respond to needs of the radiologist or technologist during a procedure.
- Has some basic knowledge of the operation of the equipment, and can assist in the movement or motion of the equipment.
- Has basic knowledge of other accessory items utilized for procedures, other than medications, and can effectively locate and provide them to the technologist or radiologist when needed (catheters, wires, tubing, etc.).
- Is appropriate and empathetic to patients and families needs, providing information and discussion when appropriate while considering the specific age of the patient and their families.
- Maintains patient dignity at all times.
- Differentiates between different age groups appropriately and provides excellent care to the specific age groups ( infant/pedi, adults, seniors) accordingly and in respect to their psychological and physical needs.
- Implements the patients plan of care, and evaluate outcomes of nursing intervention.
- Makes sound nursing judgments, questions orders which are unclear and seeks guidance from physician or other nursing resources appropriately.
- Competently cares for all age levels demonstrating the ability to assess and provide appropriate nursing care which meets the physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the patient.
- Complies with hospital policies and procedures, Infection control policies and departmental standards in the delivery of direct patient care.
- Safely administers medications according to policy and procedure.
- Documents all nursing intervention and patient's response, adhering to appropriate charting guidelines.
- Responds effectively and efficiently in emergency response situations according to hospital standards.
- Evaluates patients outcome and reports changes to physician appropriately, with follow up of nursing interventions.
- Participates and is accountable for the efficient operation of the Radiology nursing services needed, as well as professional and personal growth.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adapts to changes caused by emergencies, staffing, and scheduling conflicts.
- Participates in both Radiology and Nursing meetings on a regular basis.
- Communicates effectively with other radiology nursing personnel concerning both future planning, day to day operation, and procedural information.
- Meets all required licensing continuing education and remains in good standing with licensing organization(s).
- Serves as a role model, and resource for all other nursing and technical staff, by sharing knowledge.
- Assists with the coordination of departmental in-services and its documentation.
- Maintains own specific certifications and competencies as required.
- Is available and prepared to work during scheduled working hours to facilitate the smooth and efficient operation of the department and to meet approved staffing levels.
- Consistently maintains work schedule and attendance requirements as stated in the Medical Center's policies.
- Reports to work on time and/or is ready to report at change of shift as documented by time card and supervisor's observance.
- Observes proper time limits for lunch and breaks.
- Request time off i.e.: vacation time, personal time and floating holidays in a timely manner from the supervisor, so adequate coverage may be planned based on departmental policy.

 

 KNOWLEDGE & SKILL:

 

2-3 years critical care nursing experience (ICU, CCU, ER).

 

EDUCATION: Graduate of an NLN approved school of nursing.

 

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Licensed by the State of Massachusetts, Registered Nurse, Certified in CPR, Certified in ACLS. BSN preferred.
