This is a 8hrs a day and every other weekend required

Summary of Responsibility:

The administrative supervisor is an expert clinical and administrative advisor to staff on weekend, evening and night shifts, responsible for the cohesive interactions of multiple clinical/non clinical disciplines.


  • Registered to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • BSN, or Bachelor's in related health care field.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support expertise.
  • IV certification desired
  • Minimum of five years professional nursing experience in positions of progressive responsibility.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical practice.
  • Minimum of two years experience in leadership/managerial role.
  • Proficiency in computer applications used in the healthcare setting


    1. Assures appropriate patient care management during assigned shift.
    2. Provides clinical and administrative oversight of staff.
    3. Collaborates with Nursing Directors to provide optimal utilization of staff based on patient care needs and census.
    4. Makes frequent rounds to supervise the nursing staff in their delivery of patient care.
    5. Serves as a clinical and administrative resource to on-call medical staff to ensure that standards of care are met in a manner consistent with the hospital’s policies and procedures.
    6. Assesses patient/customer satisfaction throughout the hospital stay and addresses issues of concern to the patient and/or family, referring issues as needed to Nursing Director or appropriate department director/manager.
    7. Assures that all incidents, unusual occurrences or complaints are recorded and acted upon.
    8. Participates in department and/or hospital performance improvement or research as assigned.
    9. Implements organizational/strategic goals at the department/unit level.
        1. Maintains accountability for Administrative Supervisor budget.
        2. In the absence of other departments, assures delivery of resources/services.
        3. Facilitates admission of patients after hours, weekends, and holidays. Maintains accuracy of hospital census.
        4. Collaborate with Nurse Managers to assess and evaluate staff performance to ensure that they demonstrate competencies necessary to provide safe and effective care for populations served.
        5. Fosters the growth of leadership, judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in staff.
        6. Attends and participates in Patient Care Services Leadership Group and Nursing Leadership meetings.
        7. Participates in hospital/department committees/projects as assigned.
        8. Responds to and redirects inquires from the community to appropriate resources.
        9. Physical Demands:

          • Travel to and assignment at any inpatient hospital location.
          • Standing or walking 1-2 hours at a time for 6-7 hours per shift.
          • Sitting ½ hour at a time for 1-2 hours per shift.
          • Occasional driving no more than 1 hour per shift.
          • Occasional lifting/carrying (equals up to 1/3 of workday) 0-35 pounds. Device or assist to lift > 35 lbs.
          • Hand dexterity both left and right for simple grasping pushing, pulling and fine manipulation.
          • Frequent bending, climbing stairs, twisting, turning, reaching above the shoulder and below the waist.
          • Use of keyboard 2-4 hours per day.
          • Visual and auditory ability to observe changes in patient status.

          Working Conditions:

          • Patient environment with exposure to clinical equipment/machinery, medications, cluttered rooms and hallways, noisy environment with frequent interruptions.
          • Exposure to infectious illness, body fluids and cleaning materials.
          • Office environment with exposure to chemicals used in an office setting.
