Position Summary:

The Chief Academic Officer shall be appointed by and report to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Academic Officer oversees and administers all Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs. The Chief Academic Officer is responsible for assuring compliance with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Institutional, Common, and specialty-specific Program Requirements and other applicable professional, educational, accreditation, and regulatory standards. The Chief Academic Officer shall act as a liaison with pertinent regulatory agencies and ensure all applicable standards are adhered. In addition, the Chief Academic Officer shall coordinate all operations of the GME in collaboration with the Hospital's Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and shall provide strategic workforce planning to align the needs and priorities of GME with the Hospital's mission, vision, and values, as well as drive efficient day-to-day GME operations within the Hospital. The Chief Academic Officer will serve as key strategic partner and help guide strategic positioning involving optimizing network and partnership opportunities and positioning the residents/fellows for optimal opportunities to ensure success in a changing healthcare landscape.

Position Qualification: (Training, Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Medical Doctorate (MD) or Doctorate of Osteopathy (DO) degree required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience with GME.
  • Member in good standing of PGH Medical staff (not required at time of appointment, offer may be extended contingent to obtaining required privileges).
  • Knowledgeable of continuously evolving standards, requirements, and trends of medical education and research.
  • Experience with research preferred, including conducting clinical trials and demonstrations of scholarly activity.
  • Current knowledge of ACGME/AOA standards for Institutional/Program accreditation requirements.
  • Current knowledge of State licensure and training permits requirements.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current State of Florida Medical license (MD or DO)
  • ACGME/AOA Board Certification in specialty

Communication Skills:

Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with all levels of the organization
