SUMMARY: Develops tools, theories, skills and knowledge to advance the practice of nursing and nurses within Nursing Professional Development. Conducts and coordinates in-service and formal education programs spanning multiple departments to enhance the skills of Patient Care Employees. Conducts competency assessment activities that spans multiple departments. Provides leadership in the work setting by serving in a variety of roles to support organizational goals. Ensures the standards of Continuing Nursing Education Accredited Provider Unit. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Medical Center. 2. Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI). 3. Provides leadership by serving in the roles of Learning Facilitator, Change Agent, Mentor, Leader, Champion for Scientific Inquiry, Advocate for NPD Specialty, and partner for Practice Transitions to promote the professional growth of peers and other staff. Serves as a role model in support of clinical care, nursing process, patient assessment, and continuum of care issues. Participates in intra- and interdisciplinary teams that evaluate professional development. Provides guidance, resources, and knowledge for professional growth of others. 4. Conducts new-hire Patient Care Employee orientation program to lead to successful integration of the employee in the organization and effective job performance. 5. Creates and sustains an effective Preceptor training program. 6. Prioritizes system knowledge gaps and addresses them promptly. Forecasts potential knowledge gaps based on environmental scanning (international, national, corporate, and local issues). 7. Oversees the systematic and purposeful collection of data, information, knowledge and evidence. Synthesizes evidence relevant to the situation to identify patterns. 8. Determines appropriate interventions as a result of differentiating educational practice gaps from individual performance or system issues. 9. Analyzes cost and anticipated return on investment for learning activities, programs and projects. 10. Utilizes quality principles and concepts in the implementation of system-wide programs and projects. 11. Demonstrates expertise in clinical area of specialization with in depth understanding of current scientific concepts, professional practice standards, and relevant statutes and regulations. Maintains continuing competency through self- evaluation, participating in ongoing education activities related to practice knowledge and professional issues, and seeking of experiences that reflect current theories and methods of teaching, learning, and delivery. Practices in a manner that is sensitive to cultural diversity. 12. Conducts and coordinates annual competency assessment activities that span multiple departments. Formulates recommendations to improve nursing practice or outcomes. Assists in the design of methods to modify or eliminate barriers to effective nursing care. Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of guidelines and procedures for nursing practice. Conducts assessments, validates competency of new Patient Care Employees related to technical skills, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and other related job skills. 13. Leads in the coordination of interprofessional healthcare and community resources for an integrated educational service. 14. Evaluates diverse learning environments (such as virtual) and their sustainability to the organization and target audience. 15. Formulates a system and effective evaluation plan aimed at measuring professes and outcomes that are relevant to programs, learners, and stakeholders. 16. Provides consultation to influence plans, enhance the abilities of others and effect change. 17. Determines current and future educational needs of NPD practitioners (or Unit educators and Care Facilitators). 18. Upholds the Steward Health Care Standards of Conduct and Corporate Compliance. 19. Adheres to and helps to enforce all compliance policies relevant to his/her area. 20. Assures timely compliance education as requested by the Regional Compliance & Safety Officer and/or through corporate initiatives. 21. Sets an example to all staff in their daily activities. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: WORK EXPERIENCE:- 5 years clinical nurse experience on an acute care inpatient hospital unit- 2 years experience with program development, group presentations, and project management- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing procedures, processes, and acute care organizations. LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:- Current Texas RN Nursing License.- Certification in area of nursing specialty preferred.- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification required EDUCATION & TRAINING:- RN Graduate from an approved/accredited School of Nursing required.- Bachelor ?s Degree in Nursing preferred- Master ?s Degree in Nursing or related field preferred. SKILLS:- Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area in order to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, patients and families.- Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision, in order to independently carry out the duties of the position.- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.- Additional languages preferred.- Basic computer knowledge.- Strong clinical, teaching, oral communication skills and education skills related to assigned areas.
