Position Title: Financial Counselor

Job Summary:

Through hospital policy and procedure, the Financial Counselor is responsible for admitting patient as an outpatient or inpatient ensuring accurate and expeditious verification, and/or authorization.

  • Achieve and sustain desirable levels of internal and external customer service, regulatory compliance and financial performance within the revenue cycle.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of Managed Care contracts.
  • Account follow-up after admission
  • Computer input of all financial information pertinent to patient
  • Ensures patient’s chart is maintained with current/accurate information for Medical Records and Case Management
  • Verifies and/or corrects daily bed, room, and charge census to ensure correct statistical data and distributes to appropriate departments
  • Reviews patient financial information for complete and accurate data before sending to the business office for billing.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Minimum of three years experience in hospital business office and/or admitting/insurance verification environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of Federal and state rules and programs
  • Working knowledge of insurance precertification process and familiarity with contracted insurance plans
  • Excellent math aptitude
  • Extensive medical terminology
  • Articulate in interacting at all levels in conveying hospital and insurance financial requirements
  • Ability to type at least 50 words per minute
  • Minimum of 2 years computer experience
  • Ability to prioritize work demands in high-volume stressful areas
  • Possess excellent customer service skills.

Preferences:

  • A current Basic Life Support (CPR) American Red Cross or American Heart Association Provider certification or a CPI certification
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

Salary Range: $15.88 - $21.00
