Performs blood specimen collection, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; may perform CLIA waived laboratory tests. May process anatomic pathology and cytology specimens; assists pathologists and histotechs, as needed. May supervise or lead, lab assistant I and II positions.
Completes prioritization, receipt, registration and distribution of specimens. May have responsibility for sendout/reference lab shipping, tracking and billing. May perform and result waived testing. May assist with processing of anatomic pathology specimens including preparation of microscopic tissue slides, staining and specimen management.
Position Qualification: (Training, Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities)
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years of laboratory experience. BLS required.
Associates degree in laboratory or medical related field from an accredited institution preferred.
Basic laboratory computer/lab information system experience preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Phlebotomy Certification where state law requires.
Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred.
