POSITION SUMMARY: |
Under the direction of the Supervisor, performs specimen processing, customer service and non-technical duties in the General Laboratory. |
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: |
Receives, logs–in, and assigns computer accession numbers to specimens (bloods, urines and body fluids) from nursing floors, outpatient drawing sites and off–site locations.
Transports specimens from the Lab Control area to laboratory departments
Registers Outreach patients utilizing Hospital Computer system.
Calls/faxes/delivers reports to areas as required.
Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job‘related hazards.
Follows recommended procedures for Universal Precautions and safety policies as established in the laboratory. Decontaminates work area daily. When handling blood and/or body fluids, Universal Precaution procedures will be followed in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
Prepares, sends out and results reference laboratory work.
Answers phones and gives reports to nursing floors, physicians and Outreach facility.
Generates and distributes laboratory reports and mails reports to non‘staff physicians as needed.
Communicates with the other departments regarding status of specimens collects and files requisitions from laboratory sections daily.
Records daily temperatures of refrigerators and freezers in specimen processing area.
Under the direction of the Director, will help in the training and orientation of new employees.
