POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for daily operation of Echo Lab. Performs and initially interprets Cardiac Echo Studies including Two-Dimensional Echo, Doppler, Contrast Studies, Trans-Esophageal, Stress Echo and Dobutamine Stress Echo

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards.

• Responsible for Lab personnel.

• Maintain safe and clean environment for patients and staff.

• Responsible for smooth and orderly function of Echo Lab.

• Maintains monthly statistics for Lab.

• Maintains all equipment and repair files; arranges and supervises all necessary repairs.

• Responsible for seeing that educational requirements for staff are met by remaining current in field, attending National meetings, Grand Rounds, etc.

• Assists in purchase process for new equipment.

• Assists in arrangement for proper coverage of Lab during vacations, sick time, etc.

• Responsible for proper processing of billing data, files, and records

• Is responsible for scheduling and disposition of Echo Lab requests.

• Communicates with different areas of Cardiology Department, other hospital departments, and Echo Lab to facilitate delivery of service.

• Charge Reconciliation

• Charge Capture

• Coding (ICD-9-CM Codes)

• McKesson Database Maintenance

• Administrative Duties for echo lab

•Compliance and Compilation of Studies, lab data, and attending physician date

•ICAEL Accreditation and Re-Accreditation Process

•Orders all supplies necessary for Echo Lab.

• Orders and maintains Pharmacy supplies for Echo Lab.

B. Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:

•Performs Echocardiograms and prepares initial interpretations and measurements of studies.

• Maintains daily activities in Lab.

•Accesses medications in preparation of procedures.

•Uses and maintains all Cardiac Ultrasound Equipment.

•Informs physicians of abnormal study results which may require immediate response (under direction of director of Lab).

•Files and sends Echocardiogram reports to proper patient floors and referring physicians. When necessary, telephones results to physicians.

•Helps prepare material for weekly echocardiography conference, Grand Rounds, and other instructional situations when applicable.

•Maintains logs of all patients seen Echo Lab.

•Participates in various research studies.

•Helps maintain clean and orderly environment of Echo Lab.

•Takes necessary steps to insure patient safety and comfort.

•Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

(Examples: Ability to work independently and take initiative; Good judgment and problem solving skills; Communication skills; Interpersonal and organizational skills; Level of confidentiality)

• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

• Ability to lift without any limitations

Experience:

Should have at least 5 years experience performing Echocardiograms in a teaching hospital setting.

Should have some supervisory experience.

Education:

College degree or prior medical background (Nursing, X-Ray).

Completion of requirements to sit for National Registry Exam and pass said exam.

CME requirements must be met to maintain Registry Certification.

Certification/Licensure:

Must be Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.

CME requirements must be met yearly to maintain registry certification.

Software/Hardware:

Should have basic computer knowledge, and some typing skills.
