Under direct supervision of the EP Lab Director and the general supervision of the Patient Care Director, provides technical leadership for the EP Lab. Responsibilities include assuring patient safety, staff safety, accurate performance of all procedures. Provides technical oversight and maintenance of equipment pertaining to the care of patients treated on our laboratory. Performs and oversees quality and regulatory compliance.

  • Operates and provides technical support for the following:
    • Electrophysiological Recording System
    • Permanent Pacemakers, Defibrillators, Internal Cardioversions, External Cardiac Pacemakers and Defibrillators
    • External Cardiac Pacemakers and Defibrillators
    • Radio Frequency Cardiac Ablation Equipment
    • Navigational Mapping Systems
    • Signal Average Electro Cardiographic (SAEKG) equipment
    • Holter Monitors
    • EP Computer Network and Computers
    • Panning the table
    • other equipment as assigned
  • May be required to scrub in invasive EP Procedures.
  • Provides and promotes education, consultation as needed to other health care team members.
  • Supports medical center initiatives for performance improvement.
  • Assures the proper prevention and corrective maintenance for the EP equipment in accordance with the medical center policy.
  • Supports departmental database functions including, but not limited to TSI, ESI TS2000, WITT, databases as well as functional systems such as electronic supply ordering.
  • Coordinates staff scheduling.
  • Ensures the quality of exam studies.
  • Provides direction, feedback and guidance to EP lab staff to achieve imaging standards.
  • Attends regular department meetings.
  • Maintains accurate lead check logs.
  • Schedules yearly radiation protection inservices.
  • Oversees and distributes landaur film badges.
  • Monitors cardiac procedures (ECG, atrial and venous pressures, etc.
  • Organizes and maintains statistical data required for DPH and JCAHO.
  • Coordinates service and technical vendors visiting the lab.
  • . Develops an maintains a systematic and reliable schedule for response to staffing needs.
  • Monitors staff interaction, addresses patient and medical staff complaints and reports all of issues to the Patient Care Director.
  • Oversees Inventory.
  • Participates in yearly inventory management.
  • Coordinates and assists with the orientation and training of RT's and EP Techs.
  • Participates in the development an evaluation of policies related to the EP lab.
  • Ensures RT's and Techs demonstrate competence in the use of cardiac imaging and patient care equipment. Ability to break down sterile procedures.
  • Assures adherence to applicable patient safety policies and procedures.
  • Participates in limited secretarial duties, (answering phone, making copies, filing).
  • Operate meditech , i.e. ordering and retrieving lab results.
  • Establishes and enforces a high standard of environment al cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Archiving pt exams. Prepares performance evaluations and competency assessments of techs and rt's. Commits to follow the ARRT code of ethics.
  • Maintains technologist records, including but no restricted to, attendance, ceu's, licensure, etc.
  • Provides hands on technical support for the cardiology department, cardiovascular research and other areas as assigned
  • Accountable for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all hospital related, medical staff related, and patient related data and information.
  • Accountable for abiding by all relevant hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for assuring all resources and suppliers are utilized in a fiscally prudent manner.
  • Accountable for all quality imaging and associated documentation.
  • Accountable for providing a safe working environment for all EP lab staff.
  • Accountable for correctly interpreting and administering hospital and departmental policies.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.

  • Demonstrates leadership and problem solving.

  • Extensive knowledge of cardiac monitoring, xray equipment, and sterile technique.
  • Must be able to collaborate and effectively communicate with physicians, peers, technologist, and other health care professionals.


Education: Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiological Technology

Experience (Type & Length): 3-5 years’ experience. In depth knowledge of cardiac cath and interventional procedures at a level general gained through 3-4 years’ experience in an interventional/EP lab. Minimum 1 year supervisory or lead experience preferred

Certification/Licensure: Certification by ARRT in Radiography and Massachusetts Department of Public Health. ACLS Required


Other: Must obtain required CEU hours to maintain state licensure and national registration. Additional Training will be provided as necessary.
