Capable of printing a census report, daily lab results, H&Ps, when appropriate requisitions, printing specimen labels
Responsible for accurately scheduling OR cases. Uses available tools and resources to adjust length of procedures as necessary, to maximize physician satisfaction and revenues for the hospital.
Uses the conflict check features to insure that required equipment is available.
Communicates with the Service Leaders regarding any special equipment or supplies requested by the physician at the time of booking.
Participates in patient safety by using patient’s full name and date of birth and rechecking the site and side of surgery at the time of booking.
Demonstrates independent judgment in prioritizing multiple or complex communications, physician orders, identifying and communicating pertinent information to the appropriate nursing staff.
Actively supports a professional and welcoming atmosphere by greeting physicians, patients, families, vendors etc. and
Accurately enters patient and case information into the Meditech system for the purpose of creating the required, computerized OR Log and statistics.
Independently and accurately maintains files of OR Schedules, OR Records, Statistics etc.
Demonstrates appropriately the following telephone skills: etiquette, call transfers, takes messages appropriately, pages in-house, call to M.D. offices and answering services and STAT phone calls.
Arranges for procurement of old records.
Calling the transfer or discharge to admitting, notify housekeeping for inpatient beds
Insures continued OR operating capability in the event of unplanned computer downtime by printing a minimum of two weeks of schedules.
Maintains forms for normal daily use and sufficient quantities for times when the OR would need access to them during emergencies when the OR is closed
Maintains the OR board throughout the day, to reflect the status of each case, including room changes, arrival to SDC, into OR etc.
Completes typing assignments in an accurate and timely manner, for example Staff Meeting Minutes, etc.
Performs daily input and verification of surgical charges
Calls patients the evening prior to surgery to confirm time of arrival for surgery the following day
Promotes learning for colleagues and self, functions as a preceptor and attends professional development programs.
Restocks and maintains all office supplies and required forms for daily use and for the needs of staff off shift and on call.
Qualifications: Demonstrates ability to read and write English. High school graduate preferred, previous medical secretary experience preferred, computer skills preferred
