Licensed Plumber, 40 HRs/Week, Day Shift (7:00AM to 3:30PM), Weekends and Holidays As Needed

I. Position Function:

Maintain by repair-adjustment and replacement - the entire plumbing system including waste-vent-water piping, valves, and the various fixtures and equipment served by this system that would normally be covered by Massachusetts State Plumbing Code.

II. Job Relationships:

Supervises trades assigned to help with plumbing projects.

Reportable to the Chief Engineer of the power plant and the Director of Maintenance.

Collaborates with outside utilities (on premises) Sewer and Storm drain-Gas-Water.

III. Authority:

To work with the guidelines of the Massachusetts Plumbing Code, the MWRA regulations, the Fire Safety Code, the guidelines of SEMC and the OSHA Safety Standards.

IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

1.) "Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers,

and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."

Responds to emergency calls.

Work from telephone maintenance requests.

Work with inspectors from the Boston Water and Sewer Department, MWRA, The Boston Fire Department and the Plumbing Inspector.

Performs jobs assigned by the supervisor.

Performs visual inspections for the detection of abnormal operation and correction of deficiencies.

Repairs or replaces defective plumbing equipment.

Also included in this repair, but not limited to:

- Natural Gas

- Medical gases, e.g. oxygen, air, and vacuum.

- Heating systems including traps, valves, controls, piping and various

types of heating equipment.

- Outside utilities (on premises) sewer and storm drains, gas, water.

- Water distillers

- Renal Dialysis equipment

- Various pumps

- Hot and cold water storage tanks and systems.

- Drain cleaning

- Steam piping

- Water booster systems

- Fire protection

- Piping for machinery

B. Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:

Maintains an on-going preventive maintenance program throughout the hospital complex.

Maintains a professional appearance at all times. Wears ID badge.

Keeps a clean, safe work area.

Maintains an inventory and orders stock as approved by the Department Supervisor.

Responsible for the design and installation of various new work and remodeling projects.

Coordinates various functions of outside vendors and contractors.

Coordinates shutdown of the various plumbing systems.

V. Reporting Requirements:

Reports work completion to supervisor.

Permitted work completion includes:

- Cross connection testing by in-house plumber and by MWRA.

- Back flow testing.

- Fire protection system tests.

VI. Accountability:

Works according to plumbing codes.

Conserves resources and material.

Works within Union and SEMC regulations, policies and procedures.

Works within OSHA safety standards.

VII. Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma

Minimum Experience:

Five years in the trade.

Minimum skills/abilities:

Ability to read blueprints and specifications.

Must be familiar with all plumbing codes including requirements of the MWRA.

Certification/Licensure:

Journeyman Plumbers License

Training:

SEMC required safety training fire, blood-borne pathogens, infection control, etc.
