Medical Assistant, Per Diem, Day Shifts (7:30AM to 4:00PM) As Needed
I. Position Function:
The Medical Assistant is a member of the health care team who assists the professional care
givers in providing quality care to patients in the Pain Management Center.
Under the direction of the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for managing patient care for physicians, entering and processing information into the electronic medical record system, maintaining patient waiting areas and rooms, assisting clinical staff in patient care and coordination, keeping each patient monitored throughout their visit to the clinic, scheduling patient appointments for departmental providers and referring base providers. Also responsible for receiving/checking-in patients, processing the appropriate paperwork as necessary and responding to telephone inquiries
II. Job Relationships:
Reports to the Operations Manager.
Clinical supervision by the PMC Registered Nurse.
Works in collaborative fashion with nurses and physicians.
Ability to deal collaboratively with all members of the health care team for the purpose of
providing quality patient care.
Has the authority to carry out patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
1.) "Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers,
and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."
Functions in the role of a medical assistant on the health care team as assigned by the Registered Nurse/MD designee taking vital signs, patient histories, chief complaints.
Performs work to meet schedules and to facilitate quality team health care to pain center patients.
Reports significant observations and patient problems through proper channels.
Maintains confidentiality of patient records and problems; treats patients and families with respect.
Maintains a clean, orderly and safe patient environment.
Attends in-service programs appropriate to the clinical areas.
Performs non-nursing functions which impact and contribute to the quality of patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
Cross-train with front desk staff.
Terminal cleaning/infection control.
Documents vital signs, height, weight, BP, and chief complaints on progress note.
Assists with procedures.
Prepares the patient and equipment; chaperoning female patients as needed.
Cleans and retrieves instruments and equipment as needed.
Provides and maintains supplies, equipment and linen for the assigned clinical areas.
Practices and adheres to Universal Precautions
Manages patient flow.
Responsible for informing department head of problems/issues relating to all areas of
responsibility as appropriate.
Assists in scheduling appointments and diagnostic tests for all patients as ordered by providers.

Accountable for maintaining confidentiality and security of all patient data and information.
Accountable for maintaining confidentiality of computer ID code.
Accountable for accurate documentation of patient records and correspondence when applicable.
Graduate/completion of a medical assistant program.
High School diploma or GED.
Previous experience in a health care setting as a medical or nursing assistant.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and oral communication skills.
Three to five years experience in a health care setting.
Accuracy and attention to detail, legible handwriting, and telephone skills.
Ability to read, speak and write and understand the English language.
Ability to complete mathematical computations required to perform tasks.
Ability to lift, transfer and move patients.

Graduate of a medical assistant program.
Training to be provided to by Pain Management personnel in daily operation

Knowledge of medical terminology.
Bilingual abilities preferred.
