Medical Physicist

Job Summary:

Provides technical expertise and management skills for a reliable and cost-efficient quality control program for four Varian linear accelerators, two GE CT simulators, an Acuity conventional simulator and two Nucleation HDR remote after loaders. and dosimetry equipment. Responsible for calibration protocols and traceability to NIST. IMRT and three-dimensional treatment planning

Minimum Education Requirements:

The candidate is preferred to have a PhD degree in Medical Physics, Health Physics or related fields, with two years of postdoctoral training in Radiation Oncology. Experience in SRS, SBRT, HDR and IMRT is desirable. MS’s with five years of clinical experience are also encouraged to apply. Completed Board Certification is desirable or at a minimum board examination eligibility is required

Minimum Work Experience:

Five years of clinical experience required

Other skills and abilities:

Knowledge of therapeutic radiation physics as applied to external beam and brachytherapy procedures in a modern radiation oncology department


Knowledge and understanding of equipment; the two facilities are equipped with four Varian linear accelerators, two GE CT simulators, an Acuity conventional simulator and two Nucleation HDR remote afterloaders. All accelerators are IGRT capable machines three with cone beam CT. One of them is Novalis TX for SRS, SBRT treatments. Other equipments include Eclipse treatment planning systems for conventional external beams and IMRTs, BrainLab iPlan for SRS and SBRT planning, CMS Interplant for prostate implants, Nucletron Oncentra for HDR planning. QA systems include MOSAIQ system, Scanditronics water-tank system, Sun Nuclear QA3 and MapCheck systems, Kodak CR system and many other QA software, variety of physics equipment such as ion chambers, electrometers and solid water. The department offers a full range of radiation oncology services including conventional radiotherapy, IMRT, SRS, SBRT, brachytherapy (HDR and LDR) and limited radiopharmaceutical brachytherapy. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and hospital information management systems
