Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years hospital/physician’s office experience. Typing, computer and medical terminology.
Under the general supervision of the Department Manager/Clerical Supervisor and within the established policies and procedures, the Medical Secretary is responsible for receiving the patients scheduled for appointments, demonstrating admirable customer service, scheduling appointments, initiating patient files, and processing phone calls within the department, and assisting nurses in obtaining records.
Consistently receives patients and visitors in a professional, personable manner; displaying a desirable first impression for the department, making them feel welcome and important.
Verifies insurance, the need for referrals, informs patient of the need to obtain additional referrals, monitors referrals not received and follows up with patient and/or
Schedules and reschedules appointments as necessary using IMPAC and documenting appointment in patient’s chart, assuring that the schedule is manageable for the physicians, nurses, and therapists
