Position Summary
Independently oversees medical staff services 24/7 to develop, manage and monitor processes and procedures that support credentialing, recredentialing, expirations, temporary privileges, emergency privileges, and other services to ensure compliance with the appropriate accrediting and regulatory agencies. Supports the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.
Specialized Skills/Responsibilities
- Ensures practitioners are credentialed according to the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policies
- Responsible for compliance with Joint Commission requirements, Federal & State Rules and Regulations
- Maintains current copy and has working knowledge of the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and policies. Works closely with designated members of the medical staff in developing revisions
- Manages, maintains, and is the site expert of medical staff policies and procedures. Responsible for oversight and practitioner communication regarding new and current policies as well as those that may need to be retired
- Responsible for and manages collection and filing of required yearly and ongoing practitioner education
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, with senior leaders, medical staff officers, department chairs, and committee chairs to prepare for respective meetings. Ensures follow-up of all medical staff standing committee meetings
- Accurately creates and communicates medical staff agendas and minutes timely and as requested of medical staff and hospital leadership
- Accurately enters appropriate requests for program accesses of practitioners
- Participates in onboarding of providers
- Creates, manages, and communicates the on-call schedule with both internal and external stakeholders
- Implements, monitors, and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of services in the Medical Staff Office; identifies and resolves problems timely as they arise
- Responds timely to requests for verification provider status on medical staff
- Strong professional, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to meet with accrediting and regulatory agencies as well all levels of the organization’s leaders
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment at all levels of the organization
- Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and proactive
- Extremely well organized with keen attention to detail
- Able to take accountability for follow up actions and requests at all levels of the organization
- Able to take self-directed personal learning
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations if requested by hospital leaders, practitioners, or regulatory bodies
- Demonstrates flexibility with medical staff and hospital leadership needs and requests
- Word, Excel, Databases, SharePoint and Power Point Skills
- Other skills and duties as assigned
