Position Summary:
Participates and fully engaged in the delivery of direct patient care under the direction of the Emergency Department Medical Doctors and in cooperation with the registered nurses in this department. The ability to perform phlebotomy and ensure the accurate labelling of specimens per policy. The ability to apply orthopedic splints and appliances under the supervision of the departments Medical personnel along with performing wound care and the application of dressings as ordered. The medic is also expected to assist with the triage process, obtain IV access and perform quality EKG’s as required. Other duties as assigned.

Provides advanced life support care to patients who are ill and/or injured. Transports and transfers patients and assesses the extent of an illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures to follow. Applies artificial respiration or administers oxygen in cases of suffocation and asphyxiation, dispenses antiseptic solution to prevent infection, starts and administers intravenous fluids, and performs other emergency medical procedures during the ambulance ride. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Typically reports to manager. Requires a high school diploma, registered with the EMT National Registry, licensed by State EMS Authority, and 2-4 years of related experience. Must be CPR certified. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Minimum: 0-1

Preferred: 5-8

Licensure/Certification/Education (Required):

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Crisis Prevention/Intervention Training Certification (CPI) (within 90 days of hire date)
  • Current/Active Florida Paramedic License (PMD)
  • Education: Technical School/1 Year College
