The Support Service representative provides phlebotomy and clerical support to the Laboratory. This includes all aspects of specimen collection, receipt, ordering, verification, log receipt, charge and credit entry, faxing and tracking. Performs venipunctures, fingersticks and heel sticks to obtain blood samples for testing. Collects other specimens as requested. Properly identifies patients using two identifiers and accurately completes the process with specimen identification. Performs specimen collection at all contracted sites including inpatient units and drawing sites. Prepares specimens for transport to the main laboratory or reference Laboratories. Utilizes the HIS and LIS for ordering and verification/ log receipt. Delivers specimens to appropriate lab sections. Faxes and mails reports to physicians. Performs EKGs in the Outpatient (OP) area. Communicates with physician, physician offices, nursing units, staff and clients to resolve any questions regarding results, specimens, medical necessity and clarification of orders.
High school diploma Valid Driver’s License. Completion of a certified phlebotomy training program recommended. Science courses and previous experience to Laboratory procedures, desirable.
Medical background recommended with experience in Laboratory and/or Cardiology. Previous healthcare and computer experience desirable.
NCA/ASCP registration recommended. BLS required.
