Position Summary:

• The Physical Therapist organizes and conducts physical therapy evaluation and treatment to restore function and prevent disability. The physical therapist identifies, corrects, alleviates and prevents acute or prolonged movement dysfunction of anatomic or physiologic origin. Provides prevention and wellness services, including screenings and health promotion. The physical therapist will also serve as a resource person for the team and the department and will participate in orientation of new staff therapists and other health personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

The Physical Therapist:

• Actively demonstrates GSMC’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values

• Conducts evaluations consistent with and appropriate for patient diagnosis. Designs a treatment plan that is goal-oriented, based upon interpretation of evaluation results and patient’s personal goals. Established goals that are functional, measurable and attainable. Performs re-evaluations per department criteria with modifications/updating of goals as dictated by patient’s progress

• Makes timely and appropriate discharge plans and recommendations for the anticipated needs of the patient.

• Demonstrate and articulate sound clinical reasoning in synthesizing complex evaluation data identifying diagnosis and developing a comprehensive plan of care

• Completes, in a thorough and accurate manner, evaluation reports, progress notes/flow sheets, discharge summary and additional required documentation.

• Serves as a clinical resource to colleagues and other medical professionals

• Takes initiative to remain current in clinical practice through lectures, literature, and other educational opportunities

• Functions in a self-directed manner and takes ownership to manage self and work including responsibility for actions and accountability for results

• Maintains professional demeanor and is responsible for quality care in all interactions

Required Knowledge & Skills:

• Able to communicate verbally and in writing in the English language.

• Must be able to adjust to varying treatment loads and schedules.

• Excellent assessment skills, clinical skills and organizational skills and charge capabilities.

• Able to lift, transfer and move patients.

Education:

Master’s degree in physical therapy from an accredited university program.

Experience:

1-2 years of experience with a well-established clinical background. Previous medical setting experience preferred.

Certification/Licensure:

Must be licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Physical Therapist; BLS

Software/Hardware:

Meditech preferred
