The physical therapy assistant is a skilled professional who has completed an educational program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association. The assistant’s function is to assist the professional physical therapist in patient related activities; to perform such procedures delegated to her/him that are commensurate with her/his education and training. The assistant carries out designated tasks that are required for the operation of the service.

General Responsibilities:
• Able to communicate clearly and concisely: oral and written.
• Maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrate a positive attitude toward patients, visitors, physicians and coworkers by exhibiting even temperament, patience, and understanding.
• Must have regular attendance
• Understand and follow established policies and procedures: written and oral instructions.
• Recognize critical and obvious changes in patient condition and react promptly and appropriately.
• Maintain composure in stressful situations.
• Organize and complete assigned work.
• Demonstrate an understanding of and an appreciation for the physical, social, and psychological needs of pediatric,
adolescent, adult and, geriatric patients.
• Demonstrate the ability to provide care to these patients.
• Bring important matters to the attention of the supervisor.
• Attempt to improve quantity and quality of work.
• Strive for professional growth.
• Ability to meet and deal with the public. Should be able to work well with patients and have understanding
and compassion.
• Ability to cooperate and promote a harmonious work setting in the department and with other departments.
• Perform other duties as determined by Director or supervising staff.
• Has awareness of department performance improvement activities.
• Crossed-trained for a variety of settings (i.e. out-patient, acute care, swing bed, etc)

Licenses/Certificates:
Current Physical Therapy Assistant license (or temporary license) by the State of Texas and current CPR certification. (A temporary Physical Therapy Assistant license will only be permitted until the employee takes and passes his/her first board examination.)
