PICC LIne RN
|Ensures patients are properly assessed, informed and prepared for the planned procedure.|
|Provides teaching specific to educational needs regarding planned procedure for patient and/|
|or family/significant other.|
|Ensures that all monitoring equipment is properly functioning at all times and reports|
|malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.|
|Monitors and documents patient's physiological recordings throughout the procedure|
|Initiates plan of nursing care based on data obtained from the patient, medical record and|
|attending physician so that appropriate interventions are conducted.|
|Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to patients for PICC placement|
|in order to ensure that a high level of quality care is maintained.|
|Assists the Interventional Radiologist with special procedures and treatments that require|
|professional nursing skills|
|Ensures H&P is present; appropriate informed consents are obtained; and all necessary|
|pre-procedure testing is complete prior to start of procedure|
|Documents all information collected in the appropriate areas of the procedural records in a|
|complete, consice, neat and accurate manner.|
|Ensures patient safety is maintained as it relates to patient identification,|
|time out procedure, prepping, positioning, presence of extraneous objects, and chemical,|
|physical and electrical hazards.|
|Carries out established techniques for safe administration of medications and parenteral|
|fluids per policy/procedure; correctly administers medications based on age of the patient|
|and the patient's clinical condition.|
|Administers medication safely and efficiently, demonstrating knowledge of pharmacological|
|interventions, therapeutic responses and potential drug interactions. Administers and|
documents using the five patients rights in accordance with established policy and procedure.
