The Radiation Therapist performs simulations and administers radiation therapy to patients under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist. Demonstrates proper operation of equipment in the radiation oncology department: Linear Accelerator-Cone beam, OBI and Simulator. Uses proper measurement and calibration techniques and completes Photon Beam data; Linear accelerator and Simulator. Properly positions patients for administration of radiation therapy. Allignes patient to tattoos or markings. Assists the Radiation Oncologist with the localization procedure: Wires area for simulation and uses BBs as needed. Applies the principles of ratiation physics, interactions, and protections in performing job functions: ALARA and Wears film badge. Properly immobilizes the patient as planned for treatment: Utilizes proper immobilization devices (mask, cradle, sponges). Maintains patient records in an accurate and efficient manner. Records daily dose, weekly SSDs, pain assessments. Properly operates block cutter and alloy materials in mold room. Wears protective gear. Actively participates in clinical education of radiation therapy and radiologic technology students. Performs minor dosimetry duties: hand calculations, treatment plan in focus with the double check, enter patient in Lantis, double check charts, calculations and Lantis entries prior to first treatment. Performs charge capture in aria and accurately sends billing data into Meditech to include machine charges and office visit charges as needed. Verifies billing and documentation is accurate. Keeps the department running efficiently by performing other job duties as needed such as clerical, aid, file room, auths, and billing.
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- Certificate/degree from accredited Radiation Therapy Program
- ARRT (expected to pass boards by 3rd exam), preferred
