***Recreation Therapist 32hrs/Days

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Recreational Therapist develops, coordinates, and implements The Therapeutic Group Program for individual patients and daily therapeutic groups. The Recreational Therapist works in collaboration with The Interdisciplinary Treatment Team, Nursing, and CNA’ to provide programming that enhances the quality of care and assists patients in meeting their treatment goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform patient review to provide group and/or individualized activities and interventions
  • Attend Interdisciplinary Treatment Team 1-2x/week
  • Develop and implement the Daily Group Schedule, with flexibility and creativity as needed.
  • Develop an activity plan for off-shifts and weekends and provides direction to staff as needed
  • Coordinate and document Fresh Air Group per protocol
  • Modify activities as needed for patients during group/individual sessions
  • Provide 1-1 interventions for patients unable to attend group
  • Document daily on each patient in EMR
  • Establish and maintain effective therapeutic, communicative, working relationships with all disciplines
  • Participate in required trainings and continuing education opportunities

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Ability to complete and maintain accurate and timely documentation: Crisis Prevention Tool, Psych Group Note, and Psych Interdisciplinary Treatment Plan.
  • Ability to plan and direct groups designed for needs of the geriatric psychiatric population
  • Ability to assess the quality and appropriateness of care in accordance with professional/medical center standards of care
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, providers, patients/families
  • Prior experience with Meditech software; MS Outlook & Word.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited program in one of the following areas: Music, Art, or Recreation Therapy.
  • American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification

Preferred:

  • Prior Geriatric/Psychiatric experience preferred
  • Master's Degree from an accredited program in one of the following areas: Music, Art, or Recreation Therapy.
