The MBS Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the bariatric surgery program and coordinating the care of bariatric surgery patients.


  • Serves as a liaison and support for the bariatric surgeons
  • Communicates with other providers in the clinic and hospital to collaborate care of bariatric patients.
  • Acts as a central contact, support and resource for bariatric patients.
  • Organizes and schedules MBS Committee meetings, a minimum of three times a year. Maintains official minutes of the MBS Committee meetings.
  • Evaluates and ensures compliance with MBSAQIP standards.
  • Ensures patient receive adequate follow-up after surgery.
  • Ensures the proper equipment and resources are available in clinic and hospital to effectively care for bariatric patients.
  • Works with physicians and education department to train nurses on the telemetry unit in the care of bariatric patients through online education, in-services, a nurse resource guide and frequent communication
  • Rounds on bariatric patients on post-op day 1 to review post-operative education.
  • Coordinates and runs monthly support group with physical therapy and the dietician


  • Registered Nurse license, valid in the state of Utah
  • A Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution preferred
  • CBN Certification preferred
  • One of more years’ experience working as a registered nurse in a bariatric healthcare setting.
