Security Officer, 40 HRs/Week, Day Shift, Weekends and Holidays Required

I. Position Function:

To provide security for patients, employees, and visitors to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center.

Protection of Medical Center buildings, properties, and premises.

II. Job Relationships:

Supervises the following staff by job category:

- Nursing Personnel

- Nursing Students

Supervised and/or reportable to the following by job category:

- Lead Safety and Security Officers

- Security Operations Manager

- Safety and Security Director

III. Authority:

Has the authority to conduct investigations of all accidents, crimes, and incidents occurring within the jurisdiction of the Safety and Security Department. This includes interviewing, collecting information, writing and filing reports, and consulting with law enforcement agencies when appropriate. Complete and enforce all life safety requirements including intitiating fire safety drills and completing fire extinguisher checks.

IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

1.) "Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers,

and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."

Patrols on foot and by vehicle all properties owned or protected by the Medical Center. Maintains a visible presence in the Hospital to assure staff and visitors of their safety.

Investigates and documents all incidents and accidents that occur on Medical Center property; completed reports of shift activity in accordance with department policy and procedure.

Monitors the conduct of visitors on Hospital premises; confronts unauthorized persons as necessary.

Conducts fire drills and provides recommendations and critiques of employee response to drills; maintains knowledge of current fire detection and fire-fighting equipment.

Acts as liaison between the Medical Center, law enforcement personnel, fire department personnel, and other outside agencies as required.

Inspects, troubleshoots, and provides preventive maintenance to all security systems. This includes simplex fire detection equipment, parking equipment, and security vehicles.

Monitors and patrols Hospital parking areas. Tickets unauthorized vehicles in accordance with St. Elizabeth's Medical Center Parking Rules and Regulations.

Operates parking booths. This includes computing and collecting fees and maintaining transaction records and cash reports.

Assists with the transport of the deceased from the Morgue and documents valuables prior to release to Funeral Director.

Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from Hospital staff. Assists with restraining patients and provides standby procedures for suicidal patients.

Provides shuttle service from dusk to dawn between Emergency Department and parking areas for Hospital staff.

Completes Maintenance Requisitions for repairs noted during patrol.

Maintains working knowledge of switchboard and telecommunications equipment. Provides coverage for switchboard and patient information desk as requested.

Transports and delivers confidential reports, U.S. mail, and other items as requested.

Secures and transports patient valuables and belongings.

Monitors ID. policy to ensure adherence by all staff.

Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities as appropriate.

Reports daily in writing to the Director of Safety and Security on all shift activities.

Reports as necessary in writing to the Director of Safety and Security on any incidents, accidents, losses, or fire alarms that occur during the tour of duty.

VI. Accountability:

Shall be accountable for maintaining confidentiality in all security-related matters.

Shall be accountable for abiding by all relevant Hospital policies and procedures.

VII. Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

Minimum Experience:

1 - 2 years experience in security or related field.

Minimum skills/abilities:

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Computer or work processing knowledge.

Ability to make quick, accurate decisions under pressure.

Required to deal with the public in stressful and sensitive situations.

Certification/Licensure:

Valid Driver's License required.

Maintains eligibility for appointment as a Special Police Officer.

Training:

Training classes must be attended as mandated by the Director of Safety and Security.

Patient Confidentiality.

Infection Control Bloodborne Pathogens.

Fire Safety Education.

Special Qualifications:

Must pass criminal background investigation.
