Steward Medical Group (SMG), Inc. is Steward's multi-specialty group practice with over 4,500 employees including over 1,800 physicians and advanced practitioners. SMG operates approximately 450 practice locations throughout Massachusetts, Southern New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, and provides more than 4 million patient encounters per year.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Steward Medical Group, the Senior Director, Operations will be responsible and have accountability for specific functions as it relates to managing a large, multi-specialty, medical group practice. The Senior Director role will be a diverse role that will be involved in almost every aspect of the medical group including operations, practice staffing, marketing, human resources, capital projects, strategic planning, network development, and finance. The Senior Director will collaborate with SMG Director of Operations, Practice Managers, Revenue Cycle Management,, IT leadership, Physician Leaders, Human Resources, and Finance to ensure that operational initiatives and daily practice management issues are monitored and managed. The Director will be assigned specific projects aimed at improving the medical group’s performance. The position is a growth opportunity for an experienced Director who is passionate about physician practice operations. Travel will be a requirement and the right candidate needs to have strong communication skills, polished presentation skills, have an incredible attention to detail, and be able to negotiate various arrangements and agreements.


IV. Key Responsibilities:

1. Initiatives:
a. Oversees the day to day management of all assigned initiatives and responsible for ensuring timely and thorough completion of those specific tasks.
b. Works with COO, VPs of Practice Mgt, Site Directors/Managers, and Manager of Training and Development to ensure execution of different initiatives happening across the medical group.
c. Leads operational calls as it pertains to assigned projects and initiatives.
d. Identifies and develops action plans to ensure that projects move forward and are completed in a timely manner.
e. Regularly updates senior leadership team on all practice initiatives along with timelines.
f. Creates professional Powerpoint presentations for a number of different venues, including Director meetings, national operational meetings, and hospital engagement meetings.
2. Capital Projects:
a. The Senior Director of Operations will be responsible for approving all capital projects that get entered into the capital system.
b. This position will review the return on investment and evaluate whether additional information is needed in order to make a business decision on approving the capital.
c. Works with the M&A team on developing a quarterly forecast of projects that will help drive value across the medical group.
3. Finance
a. Attends specific close meetings and follows up on initiatives that come out of the close meetings to ensure execution.
b. Performs high level analyses derived from monthly close decks and various data sources.
c. As assigned, will create ad hoc analyses for various requests as it pertains to operational or new business initiatives.
d. Participates in close meetings in order to better understand the markets and geography pertaining to different practices.
e. Creates business plans for both provider and practice acquisitions in conjunction with the merger and acquisition teams.
f. Reviews and approves all physician owned real estate leases.
4. Human Resources
a. Collaborates with Human Resources regarding an employee engagement plan.
b. Works with HR to understand any compliance issues with regards to provider and staff training.
5. Marketing
a. Works with numerous marketing resources within the organization to ensure that SMG providers are being appropriately marketed within their communities.
b. Helps to evaluate new programs or partnerships that would expose SMG providers to more prospective patients.
6. All other duties assigned

VII. Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree or minimum amount of education and experience. Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Minimum Experience: 5 to 7 years or progressive work experience in a multispecialty physician group model with proven project management success. Practice management or health care operations experience required. Director level experience in physician practice management with at least 2 years of experience is highly desired.

Minimum skills/abilities:

1. Working knowledge and understanding of all rules, regulations, policies and procedures with regard to enrollment and billing with the third-party payors.
2. Ability to work well with all levels of personnel.
3. Ability to prioritize and manage several projects with demanding work loads.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
5. Ability to identify problems in the regulatory, licensing, credentialing and enrollment arena and perform research, prepare reports, and summarize based upon research data.
6. Ability to make policy and procedural decisions and judgments.
7. Proven ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.
8. Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills.
9. Ability to work independently.
10. Enjoys working in a fast-faced, highly entrepreneurial environment
11. Be able to quickly develop trust with all stakeholders across the organization

Special Qualifications: Capacity to deal with several critical events simultaneously. Ability to analyze a situation and provide viable solutions and alternatives. Ability to see in immediate and future desired states. Ability to manage a variety and complex assortment of projects simultaneously and working with mgrs/directors/executives at all levels of organization. Must be willing to travel across the United States.
