Position Summary:
  • Steward Health Care System is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to serve as a business partner to senior leadership, to drive an effective budgeting and planning process and to support high-level analysis. The Senior Financial Analyst will provide financial analysis in support of the annual budget and periodic reforecast requirements in coordination with business unit and corporate staff organizations; produce monthly/quarterly financial results, corporate financial reporting requirements and related financial analysis; and perform financial analysis to evaluate operating performance and support decision making. The ideal candidate will be extremely well-organized and have solid time management skills in order to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, under sometimes tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with Hospital Finance staff, Corporate Financial Planning, Accounting, Revenue Cycle and other finance staff to understand and evaluate financial performance and major financial issues facing the organization;
  • Provides technical support to other analysts within finance department, along with developing and maintaining operation/finance models to track and trend performance
  • Designs and maintains accurate records and databases;
  • Assists with other management and budget assignments as required;
  • Reports on weekly and monthly metrics, including but not limited to Volume, Revenue, Expenses, variances to budget;
  • Accurately responds to Hospital leadership and Corporate leadership;
  • Continuous support of assigned hospitals including but not limited to: Monthly close financial packages, Ad hoc reporting and variance analysis, targeted hospital and regional financial projects;
  • Works with various reporting tools and systems utilized by various Hospital departments, while ensuring consistency in reporting within the multiple systems;
  • Runs daily, weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports;
  • Identifies and works with the manager to resolve problems when appropriate, and initiates changes to prevent future problems;
  • Maintains professional competency, according to department policies, procedures and protocols;
  • Maintains a repository of knowledge required to train new analysts including manuals, tip sheets, and other materials;
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations;
  • Understands, communicates, and explains variance drivers within the business and to help the revenue cycle team in making recommendations to senior management

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Prior health care experience/education preferred;
  • Excellent analytical skills;
  • Very strong proficiency with Excel (financial modeling & data aggregation, lookups, macros), SQL experience a plus;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Extremely well-organized with solid time management skills in order to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, under sometimes tight deadlines;
  • Self-motivated, self-starter;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong customer service orientation and problem resolution;
  • Resourceful and able to take initiative; take-charge ability, including knowledge of resources to answer questions and find required data and information;
  • Problem solving skills and an interest in improving processes;
  • Ability to translate data into meaningful information;
  • Inquisitive and interested in hospital operations;
  • Project oversight experience preferred;
  • Flexible, team player;
  • Exceptional research and organizational skills;
  • Exceptional judgment and discretion on sensitive fiscal and confidential issues
  • Knowledge of basic budgetary or accounting principles and practices as applicable to health care.

Education/Experience/LIcensure/Technical/Other:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience: Two to four years of hospital revenue, health care finance, budget or other finance experience or education
  • Software/Hardware: Advanced computer skills, particularly Excel and SQL, Word and Powerpoint
