***SR Clinical Assistant ED Per Diem


The Sr. Clinical Assistant complements the Emergency Department patient care team by assisting in patient flow & patient examination, care and treatment. The Sr. Clinical Assistant possesses clinical skills and expertise to assist in the delivery of direct and indirect patient care in the emergency department setting, under the supervision and guidance of the emergency department nurses and providers. This includes, but is not limited to, utilization of clinical multi-tasking patient care and prioritization skills to provide care to patients within the department setting. They will support the provider and nursing staff in bedside procedures, delivery of emergent resuscitative care and delivery of quality communication to patients/families of all ages who present with a variety of illness and injuries


  • Under the direction of the Charge Nurse, assists with and coordinates Emergency Department patient flow:
  • Receives handoff report from EMS
  • Receives EMS prehospital patient reports via Twiage, CMED or recorded landline
  • Directs EMS to assigned Emergency Department room
  • Assists EMS with the transfer of patients from the EMS stretcher
  • Assists with front end triage/flow as directed by the Charge Nurse
  • Assists with the coordination and facilitation of Emergency Department interfacility transfers
  • Performs the paramedic patient triage assessment and documents as appropriate
  • Provides BLS airway management as needed (OPA/NPA/Suction/Supplemental Oxygen Therapy)
  • Establishs & maintains peripheral intravenous access to include external jugular access
  • Establishs & maintains intraosseous access
  • Accesses indwelling catheters and implanted central IV ports
  • Performs venipuncture blood draw
  • Performs CPR as needed
  • 12 lead ECG acquisition
  • Provides cardiac monitoring of telemetry patients during during transfer to inpatient unit.
  • Performs electrical therapy as needed (cardioversion/pacing/defibrillation)
  • Obtains patient history including home medication list


  • Ability to work independently and take initiative; Good judgment and problem solving skills; Communication skills; Interpersonal and organizational skills; Level of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy /physiology.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Skilled in multi-tasking and ability to prioritize.
  • Comfortable with use of computers and telephone

  1. Education: High School Diploma or GED. Successful completion of a Paramedic program
  2. Experience Three years field work as a Paramedic
  3. Certification/Licensure: Current prehospital Paramedic credential. BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  4. Software/Hardware: Basic computer literacy.
