JOB SUMMARY
Works under general supervision and is responsible for maintaining records and reports, maintaining and distributing supplies, preparing surgical packs and sterilizing instruments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assembles instrument kits and accessories using department's instrument books with 95% accuracy.
  • Collects instruments from sterilizers and other areas as needed after the completion of decontamination process and after instruments have been sterilized.
  • Uses instrument books to assemble instruments into kits with 95% accuracy.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on instruments to include inspection of instruments, ultrasonic washing, milking and ensuring proper functioning with 95% accuracy.
  • Replaces missing or broken instruments in instrument kits with 95% accuracy.
  • Assembles instruments and accessories according to manufacturer’s guidelines 100% of the time.
  • Effectively communicates issues that are problematic to CSR supervisor.
  • Prepares instrument kits and accessories for sterilization.
  • Places instruments in the correct container and chooses correct sterilization methods 100% of the time in accordance with AORN and department guidelines.
  • Wraps instrument kits and accessories making sure department wrapping guidelines are followed 100% of the time.
  • Labels instrument kits accurately and marks with correct sterilization tape.
  • Conducts sterilizer spore testing.
  • Conducts spore testing for autoclaves and maintains appropriate sterilization charts as per departmental guidelines-spore testing is done to 100% accuracy.
  • Reads indicators and logs results in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines once per week with 100% accuracy.
  • Changes and stores sterilization charts daily for each sterilizer, replaces chart or tape on each sterilizer with 100% accuracy.
  • Monitors equipment inventory as per department policy.
  • Monitors equipment inventory of all items for event related outcomes with 95% accuracy.
  • Processing of Sterile Supplies.
  • Prepares all equipment for daily use each morning per department procedures.
  • Decontaminates, washes, and cleans reusable supplies according to JCAHO Standards, and written departmental procedures, throughout the day until the end of shift, completing the work assigned.
  • Preps and packages reusable clean supplies according to JCAHO Standards and written departmental procedures, throughout the day until the end of shift, completing assigned work.
  • Dates and labels reusable supplies according to JCAHO Standards and written departmental procedures throughout the day until the end of shift, completing work.
  • Sterilizes reusable supplies according the JCAHO Standards and written departmental procedures, throughout the day until the end of shift assigned.
  • Stores supplies according to JCAHO Standards and written departmental procedures, throughout the day until the end of shift, completing 80-90% of work assigned.
  • Cleans and delivers medical/surgical equipment.
  • Picks up used equipment according to written departmental procedures, throughout the day as requested until the end of shift, completing designated assignments.
  • Delivers reprocessed equipment according to written departmental procedures, throughout the day until the end of shift, completing all designated assignments.
  • Cleans and delivers medical/surgical/orthopedic equipment.
  • Picks up used equipment according to written departmental procedures, throughout the day as requested until the end of shift, completing designated assignments.
  • Delivers new and reprocessed equipment according to written departmental procedures, throughout the day until the end of shift, completing all designated assignments.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for Collection of used supplies and orthopedic equipment.
  • Retrieves items from nursing units according to written departmental procedures, throughout the day until the end of shift, completing all needed retrievals by end of shift.
  • Demonstrated respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Commits to recognize and respect cultural diversity for all customers (internal and external).
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external customers with respect of differences in cultures, values, beliefs and ages, utilizing interpreters when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Ability to sterilize equipment, special trays and packs.
  • Ability to identify equipment for packaging for OR and other units engaged in surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of cleaning requirements for surgical instruments and supplies

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / LICENSURE / TECHNICAL

  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • 1 year of relevant experience required
  • CSR Tech Certification (CBSPD)
