Summary: Performs a variety of computer, clerical, and supply functions necessary for the operation of the unit.
Responsibilities: Handling and controlling written and verbal communications between unit personnel and numerous physicians, ancillary services, patients, visitors, and families. Capable of printing a census report, daily lab results ,when appropriate requisitions, A+B kardexes, printing specimen labels and diet list. Transcribes all written physician orders accurately including but not limited to transcribing medications to the MAR for review by the R.N. Demonstrates independent judgment in prioritizing multiple or complex physician orders, identifying and communicating pertinent information to the appropriate nursing staff.Arranges for ambulance transportation for patients, books a transfer to another facility and copies the patient’s record.
Qualifications: Demonstrates ability to read and write English. High school graduate preferred, previous medical secretary experience preferred, computer skills preferred
Physical Requirements: Ability to utilize technology applicable to position, including desktop computers, office equipment and telephones. Use of hands for fine manipulation and gross grasping and manipulation. Keyboarding up to 7 hours/day, able to distinguish colors and read numbers. Able to stand/walk, lift and carry supplies up to 15 pounds. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Dust and other irritants may be present.
